The Expanding Casino Gaming Industry in Pennsylvania

With casino table games coming to Pennsylvania casino facilities soon, trained casino dealers will be needed to manage the table games. And rather than start from the beginning, some Pennsylvania area schools are utilizing a deep niche of casino gaming education experience at a longtime gaming facility.

The Casino Career Institute, located at the Atlantic Cape Community College in South Jersey, has so far taught about fifty thousand students how to run blackjack as well as the games of craps and roulette, which are only previously available in Las Vegas and Atlantic City gaming establishments, in the thirty-two years that it has been open.

Casino Career Institute officials said that all of the casino table games lessons from craps tables to blackjack tables are all hands-on lessons since the instructors are from the casino industry.

Institute director Carol Drea said that with Atlantic City facing stiff competition from around the state, not as many individuals are taking lessons there. But she points out that casino students elsewhere in the US will be learning the same casino table games lessons.

Drea said on March 6th, 2010 that they have a contract with the Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and they are providing the instructor-leader guides as well as the student manuals.

They also have leased their curriculum to the Delaware Technical College. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board warns that prospective casino table games dealers need to acquire training certificates from an accredited school that follows Pennsylvania's guidelines, which community colleges already follow but private casino training schools may not follow.
